THE WRITERS’ ROOM

There are books and courses, Masters degrees and Comedy Conferences, but nothing that puts a bunch of comedy writers together in a room and helps them to create the comedy magic together.

Nothing… until now.

From November I’ll be working with you in small groups (maximum five people) to introduce you to the joy, misery and hilarity of coming up with jokes, characters and stories in the room.

We’re going to do a weekly hour long session for four weeks.

Over the four sessions there will be a mix of brainstorming in groups and alone, discussing the ideas we come up with from the brainstorming and hopefully a few fun sessions to develop your spontaneous comedic thinking.

There’ll be an element of teaching but I want to keep that to a minimum. I’ll get a sense of how much is required over the month that we work together.

WARNING – ALL WHO ENTER THE WRITERS’ ROOM MUST LEAVE THEIR EGOS AT THE DOOR!

The key areas we’ll look at are the basics we all need reminding of whenever we start a new project: 

  • What’s your idea and how strong is it? 
  • What’s it about? 
  • Who’s your main character? 
  • What’s their goal and obstacle? 
  • What’s the world?

You’ll be expected to do some homework, enough for you to bring ideas for the following week.

There’s an option of four dates and times to choose from as follows (all times GMT). I’ve tried to go for a mix of days and times to suit time zones and to fit around real life:

Mondays   6:30-7:30pm10, 17, 24 November and 1 December
Wednesdays  1:00-2:00pm5, 12, 19, 26 November
6:30-7:30pm 12, 19, 26 November and 2 December
Thursdays7:30-8:30am 6, 13, 20, 27 November

Note that Thursday time is AM not PM

Assuming it all works out I’ll be running a new series of courses in 2026 and it’ll be £199 inclusive for the four week package.

For now all I’m asking is pay what you can. Even if for now, that has to be nothing.
